NIN Appointment & Enrolment Guidelines

Save Your Time and Ours — Please Read and Follow These Instructions Carefully

  • No walk-ins are allowed.
  • Services are strictly by appointment only.

All applicants must complete the necessary pre-registration processes and bring all required documents to the appointment. Failure to do so will prevent the enrollment process from proceeding.

The following documents are mandatory for new NIN registration, regardless of whether you already possess other Nigerian identification documents (such as a Nigerian Passport or Birth Certificate):

  • Declaration of Age Affidavit (For Adult)
  • Digital Birth Attestation Certificate/Code (For both New Adult & Child)
  • Nigerian Passport (Valid or Expired)
  • NIMC Payment Receipt/Code (You may choose to pay during your appointment)

Please come to your appointment with the following:

  • Declaration of Age Affidavit
  • Digital Birth Attestation Code (With your Correct Name (First, Middle & Last Name)
  • Nigerian Passport (Valid or Expired)
  • NIMC Payment Receipt (You May Choose to Pay during your appointment)
  • Credit or Debit Card for payment of NIMC Service Fees
  • Appointments may only be rescheduled at least 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time.
  • If you fail to reschedule within this period, you will be required to book a new appointment.

If you arrive without all the required documents (such as Nigerian Passport, Affidavit, Digital Birth Attestation Certificate/Code, Valid Nigerian Passport, or NIMC Payment Receipt):

  • No agent will be able to attend to you.
  • Your appointment cannot proceed.
  • You will be required to schedule a new appointment, which may result in a loss of time and money.

Please ensure that all documents and requirements are complete before arriving for your appointment to avoid delays or rescheduling.

  • Any color may be worn except WHITE
  • Do not wear clothing with a human face, portrait or large graphic image on the front because it may interfere with biometric capture.

Choose Your NIMC Services

NEW NIN ENROLLMENT – MANDATORY DOCUMENTS:Regardless of any other Nigerian proof of citizenship or identity you possess—including a Nigerian Passport, Birth Certificate, Voter’s Card, or Court-issued document—the following documents are MANDATORY for all NEW NIN enrollments:

ADULT APPLICANTS: Court Affidavit and National Population Commission (NPC) Digital Birth Certificate or Birth Attestation

CHILD APPLICANTS: National Population Commission (NPC) Digital Birth Certificate or Birth Attestation (Foreign Birth)

Obtain Your Affidavits (STEP 1)

Obtain the required Court Affidavit and Statutory Declaration of Age before applying for a Digital Birth Attestation Certificate.

Digital Birth Certificate or Attestation (STEP 2)

Apply for the Digital Birth Attestation or Birth Certificate required for your NIN enrolment. 

Adult NIN Biometric Appointment (STEP 3 FOR ADULT)

For eligible Nigerians and applicants who have never previously enrolled for a NIN.

BVN Update for BVN-Generated NIN

Complete your BVN-generated NIN update by scheduling a biometric appointment and completing payment.

Reactivate a Suspended NIN

Restore access to a suspended National Identity Number through a biometric appointment.

Child NIN Biometric Appointment (STEP 2 FOR CHILD)

Register a child for a NIN using the appropriate birth documentation.

Child-to-Adult Migration

Migrate a child’s existing NIN record to adult status via a biometric appointment.

Other NIN Services

Print NIN Slip or Retrieve NIN Number

Access additional NIN services such as slip printing or number retrieval.

Self-Modification

Correct or update your NIN record details through NIMC’s Self-Service Modification portal.

Option 1: Fast-Track Service — Recommended

  • Expected processing period: within 24 Nigerian working hours.
  • After receiving the certificate, the applicant may schedule a biometric appointment.
  • National Population processing fee: $33.00, non-refundable.
  • National Population application and Birth Certificate fee: $80.00, non-refundable.
  • Mercyland Inc. processing fee: $25.00, non-refundable.
  • Total fast-track processing fee: $138.00.

Option 2: Do It Yourself

  • National Population processing fee: $32.00, non-refundable.
  • National Population application and Birth Certificate fee: $80.00, non-refundable.
  • The applicant is responsible for completing the entire process.
  • Mercyland Inc. does not provide support for this self-service option.
  • Contact the National Population Commission, FCT Abuja, for official guidance.

Digital Birth Certificate and Verification Instructions

  1. Visit the National Population Commission website.
  2. Click “Services”.
  3. Select the required service.
  4. Create an account.
  5. Log in and select the appropriate service.
  6. Open each privacy notice, review it and confirm each required checkbox.
  7. Provide consent.
  8. Select the attestation or registration service.
  9. Complete the application.
  10. Make the required payment.
  11. Print all generated documents, including the Temporary Attestation Code.
  12. Proceed to the NIMC process and make the appropriate NIN payment.

Obtain Your Affidavits

Option 1: Fast-Track Service — Recommended

  • Obtain your NIN Court Affidavit(s) within 72 Nigerian Working Hours. (After which, you can apply for your Digital Birth Attestation Certificate
  • High Cour FCT Non-refundable Affidavit Fees: $23.00
  • Fast Track None-Refundable Processing Fees: $20.00

NOTE: Schedule Biometric Appointment After you have completed and obtain both Court Affidavit and Birth-Attestation.

Option 2: Do It Yourself

  • Applicants may obtain the Court Affidavit and Statutory Declaration of Age independently.
  • The applicant is responsible for the entire process.
  • Mercyland Inc. does not provide guidance for the self-service process.
  • Applicants should contact the Federal High Court in Abuja or the National Population Commission, FCT Abuja, for official assistance.

Please Note that Regardless of any other Nigerian identification documents you possess, a Digital Birth Attestation is the ONLY mandatory requirements for all NEW Child NIN enrollments.

Child Registration

You must Complete the following three steps to possess your child NIN biometric registration:

  1. Obtain the appropriate Digital Birth Certificate or Foreign Birth Verification.
  2. Schedule a NIN biometric appointment.
  3. Pay the required NIMC fee during the appointment.

  3. Pay the required NIMC fee during the appointment.

Self-Modification

  • Applicants who do not require supporting data modification documents may proceed directly to the NIMC Self-Service Modification website.
  • Applicants who need supporting changes to their name, date of birth or other identity details may first need an Affidavit and Digital Birth Attestation.
  • NIMC Self-Service Modification supports eligible changes such as name, phone number, date of birth and address.
  • No biometric appointment is required for the online self-service process unless NIMC instructs otherwise.

New NIN Enrolment Is for:

  • Applicants who have never applied for a NIN.
  • Nigerian citizens.
  • Eligible adults born abroad to a Nigerian parent.

Complete These Four Steps:

  2. Obtain your Digital Birth Certificate or Birth Attestation.
  3. Schedule a NIN biometric appointment.
  4. Pay the required NIMC fee during your biometric appointment.
